Flat File Database Types

These are simple Database Types comprising a single 'table' the columns would have similar items in them such as column one could be 'name', next 'address', next 'post code' etc. Rows would hold different names and addresses. This could then be used for a mailing list

Relational Database Types

For example
A company has a number of suppliers for its products, the same product can be supplied from different suppliers therefore there are two tables, suppliers and products.
Because there is a relationship between these two tables a join can be made between them.
This allows comparison of products on price and specification from different suppliers and so a company can select one that best suits its needs.

Database Types

When a number of people work together in an organization with database types, there is a requirement for various forms of information to help with the operation and management of the work of that organization.
This requirement holds for all types of organization, whether a manufacturing company, a public or private service organization or retail outlet. Information is central to the effective operation of any organization.

Database Types

To be effectively used, information needs careful organization and management
On a computer this is done by relational database types management system (RDBMS).

Advantages of using Database Types with a RDBMS over a bespoke application is that a bespoke application was designed for a specific set of requests to resolve last years problems, a RDBMS can be interrogated using SQL (Structured Query Language) for "never asked before" and "one of a kind" problems. In other words it can resolve today’s problems today.
